Welcome to the third Jersey Bellydance weekend with the Modern Hotels Group.

Programme of Events

Friday 28th November

6.00pm              With flights arriving all day we hope to meet up with everyone as they arrive but if not we will catch 
                          you for a pre-dinner drink at 6pm in the hotel bar.

7.00 – 8.00pm     Dinner

8.45 - 9.45pm      Introductions, fun dance sessions focussing on upper body teqnique and smooth flow.

9.45pm onwards   Social time

Saturday 29th November

10.00 – 12.00noon   Learn choreography.  It’s up to you; Jackie and I will both teach a choreography (more details to follow) that will be performed in the Saturday evening showcase (although participation in the showcase is optional).

12.00 – 1.00pm        Lunch

1.30pm – 2.30pm     Rehearsal*/Technique workshop**

  • Performer rehearsals for dancers wishing to perform their own routine in the showcase with performance tips from Anne *

    OR...
  • 1 hour intensive technique workshop with Jackie for those who are not Rehearsing **

2.30 – 6.00pm            Shopping/Sightseeing

FREE time to explore the island on your own or on a guided tour arranged by the hotel, visit some of Jersey’s beautiful, tax-free shops or just take the opportunity to chill out in the hotel’s pool/steam room/Jacuzzi complex.

7.00pm   Delicious Middle Eastern Buffet Dinner

9.00pm Dance Showcase
             Performers please ensure that you give Jackie a copy of your CD and complete a pro form by Sat lunchtime.
             A programme for the showcase will be available after 5pm on Saturday

Sunday 30th November

10.00am - 11.00am  Fix that move (a technique special)

11.00am - 12.30pm  Learn a choreography (ie. the one you didn’t learn on Saturday)

OR...

If you are all danced out from the Saturday night showcase why not book a foot and leg massage with Hazel Gilson.  (The cost of massage is not included in the weekend package)

The course officially ends at 12.30pm on Sunday but many people take the opportunity to add on an extra day or two to see more of the island or just to relax.



Your Teachers
Anne Kingston



Anne teaches and performs Middle Eastern dance throughout the UK.  A qualified JWAAD (Josephine Wise Academy of Arabic Dance) teacher, her style is relaxed and fun.  She prefers modern Egyptian style and travels to Egypt regularly to study the latest techniques and research various aspects of the dance.  Although her main destination is Cairo, in 2003 she discovered a love for deserts while trekking across the Sinai to raise money for Scope and in April 2005 she visited Egypt’s Sea of Sand, the western desert and oases, learning the dances of the Bedouin.

Previously trained in tap and jazz dance and with an interest in many other dance forms Anne has studied middle eastern dance over 12 years with many international dance teachers including Raqia Hassan, Farida Fahmy, Yasmina, Mahmoud Reda, Nadia Hamdi, Aida Noor, Leila Haddad,Sara Farouk Ahmed, Lubnor, Amel Tafsout, Pauline Sayhi, Khaled, Mohammed Khazafy, Suraya Hilal, Medea Mahdavi, Wendy Buonaventura, Josephine Wise and Jackie Jamal.

Anne performs regularly as a soloist and also as a member of the Tarab Dance Company. The Company produce an annual Middle Eastern dance show which they tour throughout the north of England and Scotland including performances at the Edinburgh Fringe.

As a teacher of Middle Eastern dance, Anne is a regular at the Northern residential at Ford Castle, she also teaches three residential weekends annually at Burton Manor College in Cheshire with fellow tutor, Shirley Lewis. Other teaching events include day and weekend workshops at Alston Hall College, Lancashire, workshops at Fantasia, London (UK’s biggest Middle Eastern dance event) and the increasingly popular Jewel of Yorkshire (JOY) festival and numerous workshops throughout the UK.

As well as teaching six classes a week, presenting workshops and giving talks on Middle Eastern dance Anne also researches, edits and writes for the Northern Arabic Dance Association (NADA) magazine and is the Press Officer for NADA and the Tarab Dance Company.

Memorable moments for Anne so far have been meeting and dancing with Fifi Abdou and Sohair Zaki, seeing Amr Diab in concert in Cairo and London, performing at the Royal Albert Hall with Cheb Khaled, being invited to dance at an Egyptian wedding in Cairo, performing with the Tarab Dance Company and dancing under the stars with the Bedouins in the Sinai desert.

Jackie has studied with nationally and internationally respected dancers over the last six year including Lubna Emam, Khaled Mamoud ,Sara Farouk Ahmed, Anne Kingston, Kay Taylor, Tracey Gibbs, Heather Burby, Tine Valois, Maria De Silva, Bayda Asbridge Sharon Kihara, Ali Whitworth, Amelia Barlow. Jackie teaches four classes a week in Lincolnshire, Yorkshire, and Nottinghamshire, she also teaches workshops for women’s groups and schools.

Jackie has travelled to Cairo to study the dance with Sara Farouk Ahmed and also performed in Istanbul. ’Highlights for me include performing 7 shows in Turkey including an engagement party for 600 Turkish people and dancing on stage with ’Lucy’ in Cairo’.

Jackie is very keen on promoting the dance in Yorkshire and once danced without stopping for seven hours to raise money for Children in Need which was shown on television.

As a Co Founder of ’The Isle Dance Company she regularly performs in Hotels and festivals.
